Ophthalmologists diagnose hyphema by performing a complete eye examination, including testing how well you can see (a visual acuity test), checking the pressure inside your eye, and examining the inside of your eye with a special microscope called a slit lamp. If you have had severe trauma to the eye, your Eye M.D. may order a CT scan to check the condition of the bones forming your eye sockets and other parts of the face.
