Can Ocriplasmin Help Vitreomacular Traction and Macular Hole?
APR 14, 2014
Question:
I am 64 years old. I have vitreomacular traction in my left eye, which has led to a macular hole. Will the new drug ocriplasmin help?
Answer:
Ocriplasmin may be helpful in some cases of macular hole, or small breaks in the back of the eye, associated with vitreomacular traction (when the gel inside the eye clings too tightly to the back of the eye, distorting vision). We recommend that you seek consultation with a vitreoretinal specialist for recommendations as to whether you are a candidate for this FDA-approved treatment.
