Should I be concerned about getting LASIK because I have had previous repairs to macular hole in my eyes?

Question:
I had retinal holes a few years ago which were repaired by laser and have no vision issues. However now I need to get LASIK done for my job and I'm worried about the suction involved on the eyeball and wondering if it can pull at the scar tissue and cause damage there. Should I be concerned?
Answer:
The lasered areas “weld” the retina down nicely and should be no issue. Please discuss with your surgeon and if you are uncomfortable at all, you can have PRK (surface laser treatment) instead and still get the same excellent visual result without flap or vacuum.
