Flashes from PVD Cannot Be Blocked From Vision
JUN 03, 2014
Question:
With a posterior vitreous detachment (when the gel inside the eye separates from the back of the eye) can you wear an eye patch to keep from seeing the flashing white light?
Answer:
The flashing lights are from the vitreous tugging on the retina, which is an internal mechanical cause, and the tugging occurs with eye movement. Patching the eye does not eliminate eye movement. Therefore, unfortunately, wearing an eye patch will not keep you from seeing the flashing white light.
