Can you tell me why cataract surgery is not advise when Macular Degeneration or drusen is present?

Answer:
The concern would usually be that the retinal problems (drusen, macular degeneration) may be causing significant visual deterioration and that cataract surgery would not be of great value. However, when two problems are present, it is impossible to be precise about answering this question. Patients with genuinely significant cataracts and early macular degeneration will usually benefit from cataract surgery.
