Question:
Why is my left eye clear when I close my right but my right eye is not when I close my left? I wear progressive no line bifocals. I am a 70-year-old man.
Answer:
You do not say whether this occurs when you are wearing your glasses, without them, or both.
If this is only present without glasses and disappears when wearing them, it only means that a different prescription is needed for each eye, and nothing needs to be done. Feet, hands, and eyes are not exact mirror images of one another.
If it is only present when you are wearing the glasses, something is wrong with the left lens (prescription, centration, etc.). Take them back to the optician first to check that they have been made exactly to your ophthalmologist's prescription.
If you observe this with and without the glasses, see your ophthalmologist right away. It may be as simple as changing the prescription, or you may have a problem such as a cataract (cloudy lens), or macular degeneration (breakdown of tissues in the back of the eye).
