Why doesn't my eye glass lens work better independently?

Question:
I am nearsighted. I recently got new eyeglasses because the vision in my right eye gradually became blurry. A test I took online indicates astigmatism. I can see better now with the new glasses. But I noticed that when I look through my new glasses with the left eye closed, the new right lens does not improve my vision compared to wearing no glasses at all. Is this a cause for concern? Shouldn't each lens correct each eye separately?
Answer:
You are very astute and accurate in your assumption. Your glasses should improve the vision in each eye to a very similar level and your vision should be better with the glasses on. If this is not the case you should discuss this with your ophthalmologist. There are many optical and medical reasons for such an occurrence and you would be wise to pursue this concern with your ophthalmologist.
