What does yellow pupil in photographs means?
MAY 12, 2014
Question:
I am 34 and had two successful eye operations as a young child on my left eye to correct strabismus (misaligned eyes). I had no family history whatsoever. I wore glasses until I was 12 and have not had any requirement for glasses since or any problems whatsoever or any recurrence of strabismus. Most recently I have noticed I have a vivid yellow pupil in photographs (same eye that had operation as child). My other eye is fine (no red eye, etc.) and nobody else in the photographs are affected. I know in children this can be a sign of disease. I have no other symptoms or vision problems—only a yellow pupil but not in all photos. Is this cause for concern?
Answer:
I suspect the yellow pupil is from a small offset of your eye (residual strabismus) or possibly from unequal refractive errors. I would think the chance of retinal disease would be very low, but I think you should have this evaluated with a dilated retinal examination by an ophthalmologist.
