Question:
What are the complications that can occur when cataracts are removed from an eye that has had a corneal transplant?
Answer:
Complications of cataract surgery are not common but can range from mild irritations and inflammation (swelling) to a major loss of vision from an infection or other issue. Additional possible complications of cataract surgery in an eye that has received a corneal transplant are damage to the corneal graft or inflammation leading to graft failure or rejection. However if the graft is in good condition with healthy cells the likelihood of major complications are low.
