Are there any treatments for Lacerated Cornea?
DEC 10, 2012
Question:
I injured my right eye with a pen at the age of 3. The cornea was lacerated and the lens had to be removed. Since the injury I have had no vision in the eye apart from very minimal peripheral vision (can only distinguish light and vague shapes, no focus). I am now 45 years old and wondered if with the advancements in eye surgery, there was anything that could now be done to increase the vision in the eye?
Answer:
You should have a thorough examination by an ophthalmologist to see if a hard contact lens would improve vision. Special tests such as an ultrasound or an electoretinography may be ordered, if appropriate. It may be that a corneal transplant or an intraocular lens implant could improve your vision. No matter what you were told in the past, there are many new developments in ophthalmology, so go for that reevaluation. Good luck.
