JUN 05, 2015
Question:
I’m taking plavix (blood thinner used to prevent stroke) and 81 mg aspirin. My cardiologist says not to stop for cataract surgery. I also had a stent placed in an artery six months ago. I’m apprehensive regarding bleeding—should I be?
Answer:
The risk of bleeding with cataract surgery is very small, but it can happen. Please discuss your medications and your concerns with your cataract surgeon as there are techniques that can be used to minimize this risk.
