Recovering Vision Lost To a Blood Clot
FEB 07, 2013
Question:
I lost vision in my non-dominant eye due to a maverick blood clot in a vein to my retina. Can this be fixed? Are there any tricks to manage it better?
Answer:
Although the term "maverick" is not typically used to describe blood clots, when a retinal vein is blocked there is no proven treatment to reverse the clot. On the other hand, there are many treatments that have been shown to be effective for reducing the swelling in the macula and this is turn has been shown to improve vision to varying degrees. You should talk to your ophthalmologist about your options.
