Question:
Why am I losing my eyelashes?

Answer:
Loss of eyelashes can occur in certain rare congenital diseases. Much more commonly, eyelash loss can result from chronic infections of the eyelid margin by Staphylococcus bacteria in a condition called blepharitis. Conditions that cause loss of body and scalp hair, such as cancer chemotherapy or alopecia, also cause loss of eyelashes. Finally, eyelashes are sparse in many persons who have reached old age. You should see an Eye M.D. to determine what the problem is and what treatments may be appropriate.
