Question:
59 yr.old patient w/carcinoid which originated in the small bowel has been told this week he has cataracts. Are there special precautions in doing the surgery? We have been told carcinoid causes huge amounts of scar tissue as a result of any surgery.
Answer: Fortunately, cataract surgery is a minimally invasive operation that is usually performed through a three millimeter incision in an area that is not near the visual center of the eye.
Be certain to tell your ophthalmologist (Eye M.D.) about all of your medical conditions during your eye examination.
