Question: I am 37 and have had floaters since I was a teenager. They are very annoying and sometimes cause dizziness when my eyes focus in on their movement rather than seeing past them. An eye MD told me a couple years back that I pretty much have to live with them. With all the laser surgery these days, isn't there any way to zap these suckers out of my eyes?
Answer:
Floaters are small pieces of vitreous gel or cells shaped like dots, circles, lines, clouds, or cobwebs that tend to be more common in adults once they reach middle age. Although it may look like these particles are in front of your eye, they are actually floating in the vitreous fluid – a clear fluid that fills the inside your eye.
