Question:
I have macular degeneration (dry) and now I have developed the wet form in my left eye. I am considering laser treatment, but just discovered it leaves a blind spot from scarring. Is the photodynamic therapy treatment preferred over laser? I was impressed that the laser needed only one treatment over several of the injections, but don't like the idea of a blind spot as I have none now.
Answer:
The preferred treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration is a series of injections into the eye with one of three drugs. These injections have been proven to be superior to either laser or photodynamic therapy for the vast majority of people with wet age-related macular degeneration.
