Question:
I have poison ivy in my eye. What should I do?
Answer:
There is really no specific treatment if it is truly in the eye itself. There are antihistamine and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory eyedrops available to reduce the swelling and itching. Steroid eyedrops can be used if necessary. See your ophthalmologist for a careful evaluation before putting anything in your eyes.
For the eyelids, cold compresses can be soothing. Keep your head above your heart to reduce swelling. If you do put anything on the eyelid skin, be extremely careful to not allow any to get into the eyes. The process is self-limited, so you can usually hold out and do nothing and be fine.
