Why won't my child open his eyes after strabismus surgery?
JUN 19, 2013
Question:
My 4-year-old son had eye muscle surgery on both of his eyes three days ago. Since then he refuses to open them. He talks, laughs, plays, eats, drinks, and uses the bathroom—everything with his eyes still closed. I'm just wondering is that normal or should I take him back to the doctor? I'm just so worried about my son because I haven't seen his eyes yet and it's going on three days now.
Answer:
Yes. You should contact your doctor and let her evaluate your son. Perhaps he is experiencing some irritation that is preventing him from comfortably opening his eyes.
