Why are multifocal IOLs not recommended to correct cataracts of adults with strabismus?

Answer:
Multifocal lens implants are designed for normal eyes. Any abnormality in the visual system will lead to unhappy visual outcomes after these lens implants are placed. In the case of strabismus, the visual system is already compromised and the lack of contrast sensitivity would be difficult to tolerate in someone with strabismus, meaning the strabismus could increase in magnitude.
