I'm still experiencing feelings of dizziness three weeks after having multifocal lenses implanted--is this normal?
MAR 10, 2014
Question:
I had multifocal lenses implanted three weeks ago in my left eye and two weeks ago in my right eye. I am not seeing very clearly. In stores, I cannot tell merchandise hanging from displays. Yesterday and today I feel really dizzy, like I have vertigo (which I have never had). I am a 55-year-old white female and I had two cataracts removed. Is this a common side effect? I thought I would be feeling/seeing better by now.
Answer:
It is my expectation that you will notice an improvement in your symptoms very soon. Many patients require four to six weeks or more to adapt to the optics of their multifocal implants. Refractive status, residual astigmatism, and implant positioning can all play a role in the sharpness of your post-op vision. Please mention your distress to your ophthalmologist and I am certain he/she will work with you to alleviate your symptoms.
