Question:
What is lattice degeneration?
Answer:
Lattice degeneration is a developmental thinning of the retina that occurs in about 6 percent of the population. It is a risk factor for retinal tears and retinal detachment, but the vast majority of people with lattice degeneration never have a problem. People with lattice degeneration should immediately report any floaters, flashing lights or loss of vision and should have a yearly dilated examination by an ophthalmologist.
