Does Lack of Eyelashes Cause Photosensitivity?
FEB 10, 2014
Question:
I do not have any hair on my body due to alopecia. I have no eyelashes and I have noticed that my eyes are sensitive to bright lights. Do you think that's because I have no eyelashes to protect my eyes?
Answer:
It is quite possible (especially if you are blue-eyed) that the lack of eyelashes contributes to your photosensitivity (light sensitivity). The lack of eyelashes may also enable dust or other particles to enter your eyes more often. If you have significant photosensitivity, wear sunglasses and consider using tear drops to soothe your eyes. Make an appointment to see your ophthalmologist. Your ophthalmologist will be able to examine your eyes to determine if there are additional reasons why your eyes are particularly sensitive.
