Is My AMD Getting Worse?
APR 14, 2014
Question:
I have macular degeneration (a breakdown of tissues in the back of the eye) and recently had injections for three months with excellent results. Lines are straight and I have no problem with sight. During the night if I get up to go to the bathroom, with only a small night light, I have a black patchy area in both eyes. If I put the light on I do not see it nor do I see it at any other time. Is this a sign of AMD getting worse?
Answer:
You are probably noticing the areas of residual scarring or retinal damage from the underlying macular degeneration. Sometimes, these subtle changes are more evident in dim light. However, it is unlikely to be a sign that the AMD is getting worse.
