Why am I have issues with my contact lenses after my cataract surgery?
APR 11, 2014
Question:
I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes and lenses implanted to give me -2.5 vision in both. With glasses I can now see perfectly, but with my newly prescribed contact lenses I can't see nearly as well. I have been a contact lens wearer for 40 years. My surgeon gave me the go-ahead to get new lenses fitted and there were no problems with the surgery. Have you any suggestions?
Answer:
If you can see very clearly with glasses then it should be possible to see clearly with contact lenses as well. It is possible that the contact lenses are not fitting correctly or the prescription is incorrect and this should be addressed. One thing to be aware of is that if you are -2.50 in both eyes then you should be able to read well without any glasses and in fact if you wear the glasses, reading would be very blurry. The same is true of the contacts. If you wear contacts to correct the distance vision then you will not be able to read without wearing reading glasses over the contacts. You can also be fitted with bifocal or multifocal contact lenses but the quality of the vision may not be as good as you expect.
