How Close Should Security Be to Their Monitoring Screens?

Question:

I am designing a security monitoring area. It will have fourteen 55-inch, wall-mounted screens in two horizontal rows. Plus, the operators must view multiple large computer monitors on their desks. Most operators are old enough for bifocals. How close should the work stations be positioned to the wall with the 55-inch screens?

Answer:

It should not matter as long as they are wearing their corrective lenses. Be careful of the height difference so that they do not fatigue looking up and down to view the monitors and then the big screens and report eye strain or neck pain.
