Question:
How do I stop tearing after macular pucker operation?
Answer:
There are a number of reasons why you may have tearing after macular pucker (a layer of scar tissue in the back of the eye) surgery. If sutures were used to close the surgical incisions, then the tearing may be the result of irritation from the stitches and will resolve when the stitches reabsorb. Sometimes, tearing can be caused by sensitivity to the eye drops that are prescribed after surgery, especially antibiotic drops. Another cause could be inflammation in the eye that is causing sensitivity and resultant tearing. Your tearing is something that should be discussed with your surgeon, so he or she can explore its cause and recommend the appropriate treatment.
