Question:
I scratched my eyelid with my finger, the eyelid swelled, and seven days later, the swelling has gone, but the eyelid has drooped by half. Have I damaged a nerve? Is this curable, temporary or permanent?
Answer:
It's very unlikely that a nerve is involved. You might have had an infection, which has damaged some of the structures of the lid, causing it to droop. The most likely thing is that not enough time has passed for the lid to normalize. If the lid still has motion, is not red, and the vision is unchanged (except for the obstruction by the droop), then wait another week or so and then see an ophthalmologist for evaluation if persistent.
