Question:
I've had very sore eyes for over a month. I work outdoors and wondered if eyes can get sunburned. If so what are the symptoms?
Answer:
Exposure to the elements, sun and wind, can cause irritation to the eyes, just as they can to the skin. Ultraviolet light can cause a keratitis (inflammation of the cornea). Wind and heat and low humidity can cause drying. If exposure is severe enough, each of these can cause eye pain that feels like something is in your eyes. Protection with sunglasses is a simple preventive measure during outdoor activities.
