Macular Edema Treatment Alternatives
MAY 21, 2013
Question:
I have macular edema and retinal vein occlusion. I was treated once with an Avastin® injection and was told I have to have more treatment with Lucentis®. I am very afraid of the injection. I cannot have this done again because my anxiety is very high. I am 74 years old. Is there another treatment you can recommend? I also take Focus + lutein.
Answer:
The main treatments today for macular edema due to vein occlusions consist of injections of medicines into the eye. Focal laser is also another consideration depending on the type of vein occlusion and you can discuss this with your retina specialist.
