What is the treatment of recurrent cysts?

Question:
I have several cysts on my left lower eyelid. My ophthalmologist has stated that he's had limited success with draining these because they always seem to refill. Does this sound accurate?
Answer:
If these truly are benign cysts then I agree that draining them would not work long term because they would just fill back up. The entire cyst must be excised in a minor surgery. If you have several of these, then surgery can be a little tricky in that you will have multiple small incisions in a small area. If your ophthalmologist feels uncomfortable managing this with excision then ask for a referral. It is very likely that these can be excised completely with minimal side effects. It is also important to send the excised lesions for pathological evaluation to confirm that they are a benign condition.
