Does Vitrectomy Prevent Eye Bleeding?
AUG 28, 2014
Question:
After having vitrectomy surgery, can your eye still bleed inside or does this surgery prevent future bleeding?
Answer:
Bleeding inside the eye can occur from a large number of conditions and the risk for re-bleeding is dependent on the underlying cause for the bleeding in the first place. In the majority of cases, vitrectomy surgery (removal of the gel that fills the inside of the eye) removes the blood and dramatically reduces the risk for future bleeding.
