Question:
Can corneal edema get better with vitamins?
Answer:
Corneal edema is most commonly due to a problem with the inner lining of the cornea, which functions as a pump to remove fluid from the cornea. If these cells are damaged or deficient, then fluid enters the cornea and edema results. The treatments include the use of hyperosmotic salt solutions applied topically (the most common being Muro 128) and if this fails, then the inner lining itself (the endothelium) can be replaced with that of a donor's or the entire cornea can be replaced via transplant. Vitamins in general are good for the health of the eye but do not specifically address this problem as it is due to cellular loss. Your corneal specialist can advise you of the best pathway.
