Question:
Is there a device on the market that would help someone with a tremor to insert and take out contact lenses?
Answer:
Some tremors occur only at rest; others are constant; and some go away at the last second when performing delicate tasks. In the latter case, there should be no problem.
The safest solution is to train you or someone close to him to remove and insert the lenses. Some contacts are designed for extended wear, even up to 30 days, so this does not necessarily have to be done daily when wearing these special lenses. They come in soft and gas permeable materials.
Plungers are available from many doctors, drugstores, and optical shops, but I personally do not approve of them because they are not sterile and can cause damage if not used properly.
Why is he wearing contact lenses? Perhaps corneal or anterior segment surgery may accomplish the same optical goal and ultimately be safer for him. Please discuss these options with your comprehensive ophthalmologist.
