Will my chronic myopic choroidal neovascular membrane improve with injections?
MAR 10, 2014
Question:
I am 42 years old and highly myopic. I lost vision in my left eye in 1998 due to choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM). In May 2012 I developed peripapillary CNVM in my right eye and Avastin injections are being administered. The condition is still persistent with little fluid. My doctor said I have to continue the injections, but for how long he is not able to say. Do you know if this condition can improve over time with treatment or will I slowly lose my vision in this eye?
Answer:
The duration of treatment for peripapillary CNVM is variable and cannot be accurately predicted. Some patients respond well to a few injections while others require ongoing treatment for an extended period. Usually, the injections can prevent severe visual loss. Another treatment that is sometimes used for chronic myopic CNVM is photodynamic therapy. Speak with your ophthalmologist for more information.
