Can I recover from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion?
FEB 20, 2013
Question:
I was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in both eyes. Both my optic nerves are swollen. If the swelling in the optic nerves is eliminated and they go back to normal size, can the vein then return to normal functioning?
Answer:
Usually the swelling in the optic nerve is from the CRVO and does not cause the CRVO. Even when the swelling goes down in the optic nerve, the CRVO does not resolve. However, swelling in the center part of the retina — the macula — can be treated with various injections into the eye and that can help the vision in some patients.
