Can strabismus in a two-year-old be treated with glasses?

Question:
My 2-year-old son has strabismus. Can it be treated by eye glasses?
Answer:
Strabismus (when eyes point in different directions) is often treated with glasses. Improved vision may help control the eye position. Farsighted correction typically improves crossing of the eyes, and nearsighted glasses may help outward deviation of the eyes when nearsightedness is present. There is ongoing research evaluating the use of glasses that are stronger than needed to see if that can help even more.
