Question:
The traditional way of examining the retina (shining a bright light through a handheld lens) is very unpleasant for the patient. Is there another way to examine the retina that is just as effective?
Answer:
The technique you are describing is called ophthalmoscopy and some people do find it uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there is no other way to examine the retina that provides the same amount of information.
