Can a Hemangioma Near the Eye Be Treated?
SEP 15, 2014
Question:
My 22-year-old son has a hematoma or strawberry mark on his eyelid up to his eyebrow and it is getting redder as he gets older. He is now self-conscious about it. Is there a laser or some type of treatment he can receive that can remove or lighten the mark?
Answer:
Your son may have a hemangioma which, if superficial, may be improvable with laser treatment for shallow vascular lesions. However, because of its location, it is important that your son be evaluated by an ophthalmologist to rule out the possibility of a nevus flammeus hemangioma associated with Sturge Weber disease. In this condition, the individual may have glaucoma and other associated and treatable conditions.
