Can Eye Be Numbed Before Injection?
JUN 17, 2015
Question:
Can the eye be numbed before an injection is given for wet AMD to avoid any pain?
Answer:
Most retina specialists use topical anesthetic which helps to numb the eye but does not eliminate the pain. Some patients do not feel much more than some mild discomfort but most feel a brief pinch of pain for about one second. A subconjunctival injection of anesthetic can be given, which can help to numb the eye even more, but this is used less frequently.
