What treatment are there for calcium in the eye?
FEB 21, 2014
Question:
I was diagnosed with many calcium bits in both eyes. I see them as if looking through a very dirty screen with often-moving parts. I have just had right cataract surgery two days ago. I got the news about the calcium the next morning. What treatment is there for this?
Answer:
Without knowing more about your condition, I cannot answer this question. Calcium may appear in different forms at different sites in the eye, and treatment will depend on what you have. In most cases of calcium in the cornea, this can be treated successfully. However, I simply don't know what condition you have and treatment would vary according to diagnosis. Calcium bits in the eye can occur in many conditions and other parts of the eye besides the cornea including the jelly-like substance within the eye—the vitreous. The treatment for this condition would be completely different if the calcium were in the vitreous or it might not need treatment at all. Talk to your ophthalmologist who performed your cataract surgery. I hope you are pleased with your cataract surgery.
