Question:
Is there anything that can be done about a very visible red blood vessel that I have in the white of my eye? I do wear contact lenses.
Answer:
There is no consistently effective means of decreasing the appearance of a prominent blood vessel on the eye short of surgically stripping off the transparent conjunctival membrane that covers the white part of the eye. Such an operation is rarely done. The best method of preventing contact lens irritation to the conjunctival membrane which covers the white part of the eye is to wear well-fitted hard contact lenses. Such lenses do not touch the membrane over the white part of the eye, so they rarely cause prominent dilation of the blood vessels.
