If you have astigmatism prior to cataract surgery that is not corrected during the surgery, are you any more likely to have a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD)?
Cataract surgery in general increases the risk of a PVD regardless of whether preoperative astigmatism is present and regardless of whether astigmatism is corrected with surgery. Patients with myopia are at increased risk of a PVD with or without cataract surgery.
