How long should I wait after an AMD Diagnosis to get appointment with a retina specialist?

Question:
I have just been diagnosed with wet macular degeneration. My local doctor has referred me to a retina specialist, but I can't get an appointment for three weeks. How quickly should I be seen for this problem?
Answer:
In general, we like patients to be seen within one week when they are newly diagnosed with wet macular degeneration. I would contact your primary eye doctor and see if he or she can have your retina referral expedited.
