Eyelid Sag in a 15-Year-Old
MAY 21, 2013
Question:
I am 15 years old and in good health. I exercise daily and eat fairly well. For the last two nights I did not get much sleep. Last night before I went to bed, the area around my eyebrow began to feel irritated when I touched it and also my eyelid felt a little strange. This morning my left upper eyelid started to sag a lot. Then my right eyelid started sagging late in the day. What is happening?
Answer:
Upper eyelid sagging has many causes but very few occur in an otherwise healthy 15-year-old. Perhaps your eyelids are becoming swollen from an allergy or irritation or maybe a spider bite is causing swelling to affect both eyelids. It would be impossible to make a diagnosis without a physical examination. May I suggest that you make an appointment to see an ophthalmologist. I am certain she will be able to assess your situation and discuss the cause and treatment of your sagging eyelid.
