Question:
Is eye pain common post LASIK surgery? How long does the cornea takes to heal after LASIK?
Answer:
Fortunately, there is little eye pain post LASIK surgery. Remarkably there is rapid visual recovery and very little pain in routine uncomplicated cases. The question of healing is hard to answer as it depends on your definition of healing. The superficial healing of the wound takes a matter of days to a few weeks, but complete healing and remodeling of the cornea probably takes months. The cornea will always be slightly weaker in the area of the incision. In other words, the cornea never heals to its original condition, but it will restore itself to the point of an almost invisible scar and similar strength.
